1.- The Angora rabbit
Nature provides the Angora rabbit with a coat that sheds or molts periodically. This coat is easily removed by plucking when "ripe", with no damage to the rabbit, or may be sheared with electric clippers, or clipped with scissors very much like it is done to sheep

Unlike commercial Angora we use only plucked angora which ensures that the length of the Angora fiber is significant enough to stay part of the yarn and not shed. We also spinn it fine with high twist to eliminate shedding, and for a terrific fur looking, no machine spinning can yield!

2.- Spinning Angora fibers
Spinning Angora is like spinning clouds. An experience no spinner should miss.

It is easy, as the nap doesn't appear until after the finished project is handled. Angora is so soft and has all the qualities one could ask for. It is strong, durable, lightweight, makes a fine yarn, takes dye readily, has a natural furry halo and you can choose from a variety of colors.

4.- Properties of the Angora rabbit wool
Angora wool is so soft, so fine, and seven times warmer than sheep's wool. It is a natural hollow chambered fiber that provides the best natural insulation while allowing body moisture to escape, keeping the wearer dry, as well as warm.

5.- How much angora yarn for hats, mittens, socks, caps, scarfs, sweaters?
1 pound is 9 skeins, enough for a small size 100% angora short-sleeve sweater; 11 to 12 skeins for a small long-sleeve sweater and 13-14 for a medium size long-sleeve sweater; only 7 balls for a shrug and 10-12 for the bolero. For hats a little more than one 50 gram skein, mittens 2 skeins; scarf 5-7 skeins.

6.- Angora yarn gauge
Our Angora yarn is aproximatly 60 yards in a 50 gram skein (1 3/4 oz).
With a size #10 needle (U.S.) the gauge is 7 st.=2 inches; with a size #8 needle 4 st.= 1 inch and with a #7 needle 9st.=2 inches; all U.S. size needles.

Our 100% Angora two-ply hand spun yarn comes from our bunnies in natural white, and we also dye it in a varierty of colors.

Karen Maguire, an experienced knit designer using our angora yarn, says: "The pile is so very thick -over two inches high and slides like water over the skin. I would use no smaller needle than a #7. Lace patterns may give a bigger gauge."

A little weight of yarn can go a long way, too. USE ANGORA FOR SPECIAL TRIMS, DETAIL WORK, or spoil yourself with the sensuous feel of a 100% angora sweater. A true experience...
